GENERAL

An Audiologist is a regulated health professional who holds a Master's Degree and/or a Doctorate in Audiology and several clinical practicums. Audiologists perform comprehensive evaluations of auditory function on people of all ages and populations. They prescribe, fit, and dispense assistive listening devices such as hearing aids and FM systems, provide counselling and aural (re)habilitative services and evaluate and manage tinnitus and vestibular function.

Yes, there is a paid parking lot. It is $2 per hour. 

We accept all forms of payment except AMEX. You can pay by cash, cheque or all major credit cards except AMEX.

Yes. There is a ramp located on the West side of the building. There is also paid accessibility parking near the ramp.

Yes. Toronto Audiology Associates is located at 220 Duncan Mill Road, Suite 218 in North York. We are accessible by TTC. Major bus routes:

122 Graydon Hall - From York Mills station in Toronto, take the 122 Graydon Hall bus and get off at Duncan Mill Rd / Valleybrook Dr. We are across the street from the bus stop at 220 Duncan Mill Road.

95 York Mills - From York Mills station in Toronto, take the 95 York Mills bus and get off at Don Mills Rd. Cross the street and take the 25 Don Mills bus North. Get off at Don Mills Rd / Graydon Hall Dr. Cross Don Mills and walk West of Duncan Mill Road to 220 Duncan Mill Road. It is about a 7-10mins walk from the intersection.

HEARING TEST

The recommended frequency of hearing tests depends on your age, hearing health and lifestyle.

Children at birth should be tested as part of the Infant Hearing Program. This is typically done in hospital however there are locally-funded organizations that provide this service. Alternatively, if there is no availability, we also complete Infant Hearing Screenings at our clinic.

Children and young adults should have a hearing assessment if there are any concerns about speech & language development, learning difficulties, frequent ear infections,  changes in hearing or any family history of hearing loss.

Adults under 60 should consider a baseline hearing test in Toronto to establish their current levels. If no hearing concerns are present, a hearing assessment every 3 to 5 years is generally recommended. However, individuals who are regularly exposed to loud noise at work or through recreational activities should monitor their hearing health annually.

Adults over 60 should have their hearing checked annually. Regular hearing assessments help detect age-related hearing changes early and allow for timely treatment when needed.

Hearing Aid Users should have their hearing test every year. Annual hearing assessments allow your audiologist to monitor any changes in hearing, adjust hearing aid settings, and ensure you continue to receive the best possible benefit from your devices.

Getting urgent attention for a sudden hearing loss is an important factor in the successful treatment of hearing loss. If you experience a sudden hearing loss, contact your family doctor, audiologist, and Otolaryngologist immediately.

Yes. We conduct infant hearing screening on newborns. We perform a visual inspection of the ears, otoacoustic emissions and tympanometry. The cost is $60. 

You can check your private insurance to see if they would reimburse you, otherwise keep the receipt for income tax.

Yes. We complete hearing tests for patients for children aged six months and older. The cost is $100 for pediatric hearing tests.

Central Auditory Processing testing is performed on ages 7 years and older. The cost for the testing is $800.

For children, a hearing assessment typically takes less than 30 minutes

For adults, a hearing test in Toronto usually take about 30 to 60 minutes. This includes the hearing assessment, a review of the results with your audiologist or hearing professional, and a discussion of any recommendations or next steps based on your hearing health.

Talk to your family doctor about any ringing you may have in your ears. You may have tinnitus and you should see a hearing professional. Tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease, and is associated with many forms of hearing problems. It can also be a symptom of other health problems. 

Tinnitus is typically caused by hearing loss, loud noise, earwax, temporomandibular joint concerns (TMJ), head and neck injuries, Meniere's disease, acoustic neuroma, blood vessel disorders (i.e. high blood pressure), or medication. Your doctor will recommend you get a hearing test to see if there are any hearing concerns. Based on the results, our Audiologist is happy to consult with you regarding strategies to manage your tinnitus.

There is no clear cure for tinnitus, however, there are ways to manage it. Our job, and indeed our focus, is to break the tinnitus cycle and give you time to recover. Using sound therapy, in combination with informed counseling and hearing aids, we can bring you significant relief. If you have any questions or want any further information, feel free to contact us. HEARING AIDS

Yes. Government funding is provided for every resident of Ontario with a valid health card through the Assistive Devices Programs (ADP). ADP provides a government grant of %400 per ear every 5 years. Contact our office for more information about the Assistive Devices Program. 

Many insurance providers offer coverage for hearing aids under 'Audiology' or 'Hearing devices' section. You will have to contact your insurance provider directly to find out your coverage.

Call our office to book an appointment to have your hearing tested. If your hearing shows you are a suitable candidate for hearing aids, our Audiologist will consult with you regarding your hearing loss and make a recommendation based on what may be the best fit. 

Yes. We offer a 10 day demo with hearing aids that you can take home and test out in your own environment. Once you purchase hearing aids, we offer a 3 month trial period where you can return or exchange the hearing aids within this time. Yes. It is recommended you wear your hearing aids as much as possible on a daily basis. This will allow your brain to get used to the sounds you may not have heard in a while. Wearing your hearing aids consistently is also important to ensure your hearing needs are met.

Proper maintenance and care can extend the lifespan of your hearing aids. Regular monthly cleaning of  your hearing aids will ensure they are working optimally and you're hearing your best. If you're not sure about proper maintenance, we're happy to review.

If you're hearing aids aren't working and you've cleaned them and they are charging properly, it may be good to have them looked at. Call or email us and we'd be happy to see you in clinic to troubleshoot. 

WAX REMOVAL

You can contact our office to have our audiologist check your ears for wax. If there is wax to remove, we'll remove it using one of our three methods. You can also have your family doctor check your ears to see if there are any blockages. 

If there's no wax to remove and you're still feeling plugged, we may recommend we do a hearing test to make sure there's no issues.

We do have a consultation fee of $50 if you schedule an appointment for wax removal and there's no wax to remove. 

The cost for wax removal is $100. You can check with your private insurance to see if they would reimburse you, otherwise keep the receipt for income tax.

At Toronto Audiology Associates, we use three methods of wax removal which are very safe and effective.

  1. curettage
  2. endoscopic microsuction
  3. earigator flush system

Although a certain amount of earwax is necessary and healthy, it can also affect your hearing and the wearing of hearing instruments. We advise regular check-ups of both your ears and your hearing aids. Click Here for more details.

Unfortunately no. Our audiologist will check your ears and assess the best method for the wax removal. While we understand you may prefer one method over another, we cannot guarantee which method until we assess.

Our most common wax removal method is using the Earigator. The water is heated to body temperature and pressure controlled for effective removal.
