We Begin by Talking About Your Hearing

We Examine Your Ears
Next, your audiologist or hearing professional will examine your ears using an otoscope.
During this examination, your audiologist checks for:

Sometimes hearing difficulties can be caused by impacted earwax or other conditions that require medical treatment rather than hearing aids.
You’ll Complete a Hearing Assessment in Toronto
You’ll complete your hearing test in a quiet sound booth.
Before the test, we’ll complete some objective tests which gives us an overall view of your hearing. To begin, we’ll complete tympanometry, which pumps air to the eardrum and allows us to see how well it’s moving. This will tell us if there is anything blocking sound from travelling past the eardrum.
Next, we’ll perform another objective test called otoacoustic emission screen. Healthcare providers perform this test on newborn babies to detect hearing loss early. During this test, a soft probe is inserted into the ear canal. The probe delivers tones to test the cochlear response. When damage affects the outer hair cells, the emissions become weak or disappear, which may indicate hearing loss.
Once the objective tests have been completed, we’ll continue to the hearing test portion.
During the test you’ll listen for a variety of tones at different pitches and volumes and indicate whenever you hear them.
You will also complete speech testing, which measures how well you understand words in both quiet and background noise. These tests provide a clearer picture of how your hearing affects everyday communication.
The results help determine whether you have hearing loss and what type of hearing loss is present and its severity.

Will I Need Hearing Aids after my Hearing Assessment in Toronto?
